Ok, so I've had an exciting 3 weeks. I packed up my stuff, loaded it into a U-Haul and moved back home to NY. Of course, things didn't exactly go that smoothly, but that's the summary.
On the drive up, we had a nice, easy, smooth ride until we got just north of Columbus. At that point, all 3 vehicles (the U-Haul, my chevy tracker and my mother's BRAND NEW Rav4 needed gas, so we pulled off and filled up. Got back on the road. A mile later? We've got the Rav4 and the U-Haul dead on the side of the road. WHAT?!?!?!?!? Turns out, it was bad gas (theorized by some to have actually been kerosene and not gas). Speed ahead 24 hours and all 3 vehicles have had the gas tanks removed, emptied, fuel lines cleaned and fuel filters addressed (what did they actually do to the fuel filters? not quite sure, you'll have to ask someone with more knowledge than me). We're back on the road and made it to NY that night. If you subtract the 24 hour layover, it actually was one of our faster total drive times.
Anyway, after we got to NY, unpacked the U-Haul the next day, 90% of my stuff went into a storage facility (it was a grand total of 15 degrees out, let me tell you, it was not a pleasant day), and the other 10% landed in my parents' home. Another couple of days to get things moved around and unpacked, and I'm mostly settled in. I do have some work to do... my "home office" was in horrible condition BEFORE I put it in boxes, you can imagine what it's like now.
A couple days later I started orientation at the new job. It's a pretty lengthy orientation process because of all of the computer training and legislation/regulation stuff attached to health care, but it's going well at this point.
My sister's baby shower was yesterday, and it was neat to see all of the extended family and friends, as well as to celebrate the new baby! Only downside? Long, long, long day yesterday. Especially since I spent 45 minutes getting my car uncovered and thawed out, then proceeded to get ready to go set up the party, and by the time I came back out? Frozen again. Much cursing later, I can get back into the car. Now, time to back down the driveway..... not so much. I'm stuck. Ok, let's put the tracker in 4-wheel drive (By the way, did I mention that it's been over a year since I had to do that? Insert praying that the 4-wheel drive still actually works), finally got out of the driveway, to the grocery store (yay Wegmans!) and to her house, only 45 minutes late (it's a 7 minute drive over there). Then when I got there, I discovered all of the things I had forgotten... sheesh. Luckily I have the best brother-in-law in the world, and he graciously ran errands for us.
One thing that hasn't gone especially well is that my grandmother, who was supposed to be coming home from rehab just before I moved up, was only home for a day and a half before she ended up back in the hospital with complications. It's been a rough road, but the past few days have been significantly better, she's eating, perky, and yesterday was actually upset about missing the baby shower (which since she has been very lethargic and nearly apathetic, was nice to see). At this point, I think that the plan is to try another turn at rehab and take things one day at a time.
Anyway, all of that brings us back to today, and more classroom orientation for work. Like I said, things are going well, coming along one day at a time, no major issues to this point.
Thank you for participating in the whirlwind tour of the past 3 weeks of my life. Stay tuned!
