Prayer and Fasting
Jan. 2nd, 2008 11:09 pmThis week my church is doing our annual week of prayer and fasting (fasting can be interpreted as you & God see fit, not necessarily living on water alone or whatever). I'll admit that this has completely snuck up on me and I'm not prepared. So.... gotta figure out how this is going to come together, guess I'll be spending some quiet time the next couple days getting myself on track.
A History of Fasting x 3 years - for my own purposes
~ 2005 - No fast food for the week - remarkably difficult - I was in some bad habits then
~ 2006 - No meat for the week - not a lot of fun, and required dedication to the task, I think it helped with focusing the week
~ 2007 - No meat or diet coke - the diet coke thing was brutal, I actually had some withdrawal type symptoms (headache, vomiting, etc), the meat was actually more difficult, because I was in the middle of moving and didn't have access to a functional kitchen, which meant more eating out and making veggie decisions in restaurants. In this case, once I got past the withdrawal, it definitely helped focus my week to the prayer aspect.
