another extremely belated update
Mar. 2nd, 2005 12:40 pmWell, apparently it took the "flu" to get me to update my livejournal. The "flu" gets quotations as I'm really not sure if that's exactly what the problem is, but as it involves fever, muscle aches, headache, upper respiratory, sore throat and generally pissed off tummy, it's a nice catch phrase. So I'm home sick today, actually called in and got my occurrence point. For those of you who aren't aware, working for a huge-assed corporation results in lots of rules. One of which is that if you call in for any reason and take unscheduled flex time you accrue 1 "point". If you clock in early or late (for me, before 8:23am or after 8:37am) you accrue half a "point". You can also get points for other reasons... being found asleep on the job, etc, etc etc. 6 points and it's verbal warning, 8 it's a written warning and if you make it to 10, you're fired. So... I've been hauling my butt to work this week on the hopes that I'd get better and not have to get a point. Didn't quite make it this morning. Ahh well.
Work's going relatively well. I've finally figured out how to work with oncology patients. Basically it takes lots of patience, an understanding that it might take 4 attempts to actually get one of them to work with you, and lots of listening. I've decided that the only way to pull that all off effectively is prayer, and lots of it. Working with people who literally have weeks to months to live is both draining and incredibly rewarding at the same time. And there's lots of crying.
The Diet has kind of gotten shot to hell. I could blame it on a multitude of factors, but basically, it boils down to not putting the time or energy into it that it deserves. Once I feel like eating real food again, I'll be re-starting.
Still no relationships. Sometimes I like it that way, sometimes I don't.
That's the basics, as far as day to day life goes anyway.
In other news, thanks to this article on CNN.com, I discovered the Any Soldier program. While I don't agree with the war on general principle (I really don't want to get into an argument on that one, so I'm leaving it short and sweet), supporting the men and women who are out there doing the dirty work seems to be important. I'm definitely going to start putting together a care package or two, anybody who wants to join me in this is perfectly welcome.
